I have been a Key West flats fishing guide since 1994. Although I offer fishing charters in all the areas of Key West, taking people flats fishing is probably my favorite. Everything I love about fishing in Key West is in this package. Hunting, fishing and Ultimately getting away from everything for a few hours for some peace and quiet. Meeting nice folks and having some great conversations. Of course the amazing boats that I get to use to get us there and back safely. Whether I am using a push pole to slide through the shallows on my technical flats fishing boat or a trolling motor on my state of the art Yellowfin Carbon Elite 24ft bay boat the goal and results are the same. Getting shots at some of the weariest fish in the ocean for my anglers. Chasing the Key West grand slam of tarpon, permit and bonefish with some other added surprises along the way. The discipline of sight fishing is the name of the game when we are on the flats. We look for the fish, we spot them, I guide you into position and you make the cast. When the needle is threaded and it all comes together my anglers have a nice beautiful fish along side the boat. That is when It all comes together. Flats fishing appeals to the stealthiest of hunters, people who love nature and enjoy fishing in calm clear waters. My flats fishing charters usually depart in the morning. We will start off with tarpon fishing then as the sun comes up move on into the shallows in search of other targeted species that I am always set up for. Light Tackle Fishing I have available the nicest spin fishing gear from DAIWA rods and reels. The Saltiga and Exist reels. 10 – 20 lb class line, loaded with DAIWA SAMURAI braided fishing line. The longest casting distance with the most accuracy in the right hands giving my anglers the best advantage to catch their dream fish. Fly Fishing I don’t discount my flats fishing charters so I don’t buy discounted fly fishing gear for my anglers to fish with. ORVIS line of Helios 3 D rods with ORVIS mirage reels loaded with the latest in ORVIS fly line and backing. I supply all leaders, fly’s and instruction at all levels of skill sets and interest. I believe in nothing but the best for my anglers. My Flats Fishing Charters I will take up to two persons flats fishing for 4, 6, or 8 hours. Trip departures depend on the day, moon and tide phases and what fish species we are targeting. I supply everything you will need for fishing as well as ice filled cooler with bottled waters. We will decide when you call, depending on the time of the year, your needs in a boat and the targeted species you would like to pursue whether we will use my technical poling skiff or my Yellowfin bay boat. Key West is well known for amazing deep sea fishing. Just 5 miles to our South is the the largest living coral reef in the Northern Hemisphere. Once we get past the reef the blue waters of the Gulf Stream is where we start the hunt for palegic species of fish such as dolphin fish (mahi Mahi), blackfin tunas, sailfish, wahoo, blue marlin and white marlin. Our charters are a great way to spend the day fishing in Key West. Enjoy fishing with Capt. There are two different custom built charter boats to chose from. Our journey takes us about 15 minutes from our dock to the fishing grounds. Once we are there we slow to trolling speed and the mate puts out the fishing rigs we will be using. Constantly on the move most of the fishing is trolling. Using ballyhoo as a natural bait and some artificial baits made by Ilander lures and Black Bart. Some days we will use live baits under kites for our best advantage to catch fish. Deep Sea Fishing Charters Our deep sea fishing charters are a great way to spend the day fishing in Key West. There are two different custom built deep sea fishing charter boats to chose from. Both loaded with the best fishing equipment available today and meticulously maintained. This is the best fishing gear available. 47' Viking "In XS" The 47Ft Viking Convertible “In XS” is a tournament proven traditional deep sea fishing boat that raises fish and has all the features of home including a full kitchen, two full bathrooms and air conditioning. She is also one of the fastest sport fishing charter boats in Key West. With a 24Kt Cruise she is out past the reef in less than 15 minutes from our dock at Oceans Edge Resort and Marina. 36 Ft Yellowfin Center Console "Too Intense" 36 Ft Yellowfin Center Console “Too Intense” is fast smooth and super versatile. Featuring one small port-a-poti if needed. She is a good resource for deep sea fishing charters and reef fishing or both, with her fast cruising speed of 40 Mph. Generally comfortable with 4 or 5 fishing but can take up to 6 persons on a charter.

The reef off of Key West is huge! It runs from Miami all the way to the Dry Tortugas and is loaded with life. Reef fishing is really fun and a great way to put some meat in the box for great dinners of amazing Florida Keys seafood later. Fish species such as Yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, yellow eye snapper, vermillion snapper, mangrove snapper, black and red grouper. There are also lots of other fun surprises such as sailfish, blackfin tunas, permit, African pompano, kingfish, cero mackerel and several jack species. The options are endless and the fishing is a blast. Reef Fishing Charters Bottom Fishing with live bait, casting artificial lures, kite Fishing with live bait and some live bait trolling are all the ways we go reef fishing here in Key West. Depending on the fishing seasons and the fish species we are targeting as to what techniques I will use on my fishing charters. I have one of the coolest boats in Key West for reef fishing. Fast safe and very comfortable. My boat is fully equipped with the nicest fishing gear from DAIWA in the Saltiga line of rods and reels. My 36 Ft Yellowfin Center Console You may be surprised to learn that the ultimate predator on the reef is not the shark. It’s my 36 ft Yellowfin center console. Powered by triple Mercury v-8s I get there fast and comfortable. Versatility is key to a productive day of fishing. Many times when I am flats fishing or backcountry fishing or even after our tarpon fishing session we can change it up and head out to the reef for some tasty treats. I can take up to five persons reef fishing for 4, 6, or 8 hours. Bottom fishing can be tough for more than three anglers at same time, often taking turns is the result. Trip departures depend on the day and what fish species we are targeting. I supply everything you will need for fishing as well as ice filled cooler with bottled waters and an additional cooler for our catch. I will also filet and bag your fish for you at the end of our trip. All the fish we catch belong to you, unless you want to give them to me.
