An Introduction to Lake Placid's Mirror Lake Inn

Nestled on the shores of scenic Lake Placid, New York, the Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa is a true trout fishing paradise. Lake Placid is known primarily as a premier winter sports destination, but its fly fishing is not to be underestimated. With easy access to the finest brown trout fishing on the East coast, trophy-sized lake trout, and beautiful backcountry brook trout ponds, the angling opportunities are endless. Guiding you through the region’s beautiful landscapes and pristine waters will be Zac Horrocks, a 7th-generation Adirondacks fishing and hunting guide. Zac’s family lineage in Lake Placid dates back to the 1790s, and he has been a part of the village’s fishing and guiding world for his entire life. Zac’s guiding career has taken him all across the globe, but his roots have remained in the Adirondacks. His local knowledge and experience are sure to make your time at the Mirror Lake Inn an unforgettable one, whether you’re an avid angler or have never picked up a fly rod.

Fishing Lake Placid: where you’ll fish and what to expect

During your stay at the Mirror Lake Inn, you’ll have the chance to explore many of Lake Placid’s world-renowned trout lakes, rivers, and streams. The nearby Ausable River is home to thriving rainbow, brown, and brook trout populations, and Lake Placid itself boasts some truly massive lake trout. If you want to get more off the beaten path, you’ll have plenty of options – the 6 million acre Adirondack Park holds over 3,000 lakes and ponds and more than 30,000 miles of rivers and streams. Whether it’s trophy rainbows, browns, and lake trout that you’re after or serene backcountry experiences, the Adirondacks have it all.

The Mirror Lake Inn location

Lake Placid is a remarkable place to be, no matter the time of year. Its wintertime activities are the stuff of legends, and the other three seasons are equally exciting. The spring and summer months are prime time for trout fishing, and its golden fall foliage rivals the best found in the Northeast. The Mirror Lake Inn is not just located in Lake Placid – it holds an important place in the village’s history. Opened in 1924, the Inn has been family-owned for its entire 100-year existence. The first electric rope tow and snowmaking machine were brought to Lake Placid by the Mirror Lake Inn, placing it at the very beginning of the village’s illustrious alpine skiing history. The histories of the Mirror Lake Inn and Lake Placid are deeply intertwined – if you’re looking for an authentic Adirondack Mountains experience, this is as good as it gets.

The resort features a full-service spa, private beach, and two excellent on-site restaurants — including The Cottage Cafe, renowned for its lakeside cocktail hour.
