My first experience with a guide and Allen did not disappoint. Been fly fishing for 10 years and he definitely had some helpful pointers to improve my casting. We got in to plenty of fish and he managed to get me one of my personal best pike.

TOP NOTCH!! Captain Allen runs a smooth operation from top to bottom. You know when coffee and donuts are waiting for you at the launch ; It is going to be a good day regardless of the fishing. The fishing started all slow and it took me a while to get the hang of the technique, while fly fishing from a raft in moving water. But with Captain Allen’s guidance, I eventually caught on and the bite eventually picked up. Captain Allen was super knowledgeable about fly fishing techniques and about the river systems we were fishing. He was friendly and I really enjoyed our time together on the water! If you want to catch some Michigan river smallies then Captain Allen is your man!

Allen is an incredibly knowledgeable guide that goes above and beyond for his clients. I have had the pleasure of going on 2 guided trips with Allen in the past year and both times were productive and fun. Allen does a great job of coaching clients on casting, water types, fly choices, etc. The icing on the cake is the impeccably tied flies that Allen provides. Allen was a great guide! Allen and I scheduled a trip for spring smallmouth, but I was itching to get out and asked what was the possibility of fishing winter pike. Allen jumped and put me on his schedule the same week! Up front, I told Allen what I expected out of our trip; help me fine tune my casting, share fishing tips, a deep dive on his raft, and obviously, put me on fish. He did not disappoint! He did all of the above, plus some. In the six hour guided trip, I learned A LOT! Even on a cold dreary day and the occasional snowflake, we got after it!

I recently had the pleasure of fishing with Allen as my guide and I’m already looking at my calendar for the next opportunity to get out on the water with him. I’ve fished some my whole life but I’m a novice fly fisherman at best. Allen had me casting like a pro, reading the water, and catching good fish by the end of our trip. His ability to read the water rivals that of fisherman twice his age, and his skill with a fly rod is beautiful to watch. Being patient enough to teach someone so inexperienced on the fly can be trying and is not something all guides do well but Mr. Campbell did so with grace. He not only told me what to do in each scenario but also explained the why behind it, and coached to all the little things that add up to a good or bad cast and drift. Allen’s passion for what he does is apparent in the care and consideration he gives every aspect of the experience. He provided everything we might’ve needed, communicated the plan, and executed on a great experience. If you’re looking to catch fish and enjoy some time on the water in Allen’s neck of the woods, I highly recommend him.

I recently moved to MI from Western NC where browns, bows and "mountain specs" are the name of the game. My first smallie-on-a-fly-rod trip on a Michigan river was with guide Allen Campbell, and man was it memorable! Allen had us on the river bright and early for good reason: an 18" bronze back in the net by 07:50. We were in fish all day, landing another 17", 15", a slew of 12" small mouth bass. He knew every small mouth nook and cranny, set me up perfectly for every cast and encouragingly remarked "You'll get 'em next time" every time my cast fell 6 inches short, or I trout-set rather than strip-set the hook. It was, by far, my best day on a MI river! If you want catch small mouth bass on a Michigan river, there's no better guide than Allen "Sarge" Campbell!

I love fishing with Allen, he is clearly a master fly tyer, great teacher, great guy. Allen guided me to catching my first Muskie on a fly rod! A goal for a while now! I highly recommend fishing with Allen whether you want to learn as much as possible or just get into some fish!

First trip on the fly and could not have had a better experience. Great location scouting, local knowledge, custom coaching to each angler's ability, and on the spot guidance for the half day adventure. We even managed to land a few Smallies! Allen is a knowledgeable guide that prides himself on maximizing the experience of those on the boat with him. Having lots of "conventional" fishing experience and no fly fishing, I thought I'd take a while to figure out the fly cast, retrieve, and setting the book. Within 20-30 minutes, I was fishing comfortably and progressed in casting ability throughout the day. My first trip with Allen, but definitely won't be my last. Highly recommended for anglers of all skill levels if you want a fun local guy to take you out on the water, entertain you with stories of his experiences, and have a good time!
