Captain Ian Slater

I was born in Hollywood, Florida. At the age of 9 my family relocated to Satellite Beach, a small beach town community on the east coast of Florida. I was fortunate enough to call my home waters the Indian River and Banana River Lagoon. Having the opportunity to grow up and learn these waters from an early age, it fueled my passion to be a fisherman.

Aside from fishing I was exposed to the game of Hockey and I was able to purse the game at an elite level. I received a full scholarship to play hockey at Western Michigan University, where in the summer and fall I was able to fish the local rivers and streams for trout. After my senior year I signed with the Philadelphia Flyers farm team and pursed the game with some of the best players in the world. After a quick stint with the Flyers organization, I signed with the Toronto Maples Leafs farm team in Orlando, FL. Coming back to Florida it re-invigorated my passion for fishing and I spent any available time I had fishing the Mosquito Lagoon and my home waters. After a string of injury's I decided to hang up my skates and pursue my guiding career out of Key West. I made the transition to the lower keys and spent everyday learning the waters while working part time out of the local fly shop ,The Angling Company. I transitioned to full time guiding in 2016.

The keys fishery is very demanding and having the opportunity to help anglers catch their dream fish is very rewarding. To play a part in a anglers success and helping them be the angler they strive to become is what I love about this game. Whether were chasing Tarpon, Permit or Bonefish, I want to help you raise your game and allow you to succeed in any salt water fishery you find yourself in.
