Fly fishing the flatsI don’t think there is a finer way to spend a day than poling shallow water, sight fishing with a fly rod in hand. The flats with their varied textures and colors are captivating. Better still are the fish that live and feed on them. They are special.
The processes involved is my focus. From beginner to experienced, I welcome all anglers. I love to learn and teach about all aspects of this pursuit.
Based out of Key West, a day’s fishing range extends from the Marquesas Keys to the Big Pine Key area. The fishing takes in the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the basins that connect them. Some days are spent very close to the dock while others might venture 30 miles from it.
The target species and the style which they are fished will vary. Wind, tide, season, water temperature and visibility all play a role in the decision making. So too do the expectations and desires of the angler. My goal is to balance my client’s hopes with the realities of a given day. The goals is to catch fish, to teach, and enjoy the time on the water.
All of the fishing opportunities have their unique characteristics . From wading to tailing bonefish to stalking laid up tarpon and all things in between, there is so much to enjoy and learn.
A full day generally starts around (or before) sunrise and will finish 8-10 hours later.
