Fly and Sight Fishing Light Tackle ChartersRedfish on fly is a great opportunity for seasoned anglers and beginners. Much of the time the cast can be made at thirty feet or shorter, and the fish are sometimes very patient which can offer up multiple shots.
Redfish aren’t the only species around. We will also target extremely large black drum, sheepshead, and jack crevalle. Spring and/or early fall is a great time to catch fish ranging from 5 to 15 pounds, and sometimes shots at larger fish present themselves. On low wind days we may find ourselves in a bay looking for giant schools of jack crevalle. These are fast and hard fighting fish that rival some of the worlds top sport fish. Wintertime increases your shots at large fish in very shallow water, they sometimes have their backs showing with the water just covering the gills. The fish in shallow water present very exciting fishing situations. The 5 to15 pound red fish are still abundant, and some of the most fun fish to target on light rods. We also fish the same species on light tackle.
I recommend bringing 7wt or 8wt rods for marsh fishing, and 9wt or 10wt rods for bay fishing. Weight forward floating lines are recommended. I provide leaders and flies for all situations, but you are welcomed to bring your own flies.
