About

Tarpon & permit are our target species. The permit fishery is amazing with anglers averaging over 15 shots per day. Permit fishing includes wading coastal flats and polling reef/sand flats for primarily tailing fish with the occasional cruiser. In terms of Tarpon the island has a huge population of resident fish that hang around all year as there is plenty of fresh water run-off, bait, and no need to migrate like our fish in the States. The setup is similar to fishing in Florida, mangrove shorelines and turtle grass and sand flats, however with an added dimension of fishing the beach where these tarpon also cruise. We are the only operation targeting these fish from poling skiffs on the island, so needless to say this massive population of tarpon is very unpressured. Average fish size is from 8-140lbs and we sight fish them in clear water, no chucking at rollers we promise, ha!

Your average day will be waking up at the lodge for coffee and a light breakfast or grabbing something to go to eat on the skiff, jumping in the trucks to head down to the ramp with your guide. Lunch and boat beers are provided and after fishing, a dockside happy hour or dip in the pool is waiting for you. Dinners usually consist of group outings to local restaurants or BBQ cookouts at the lodge. We take care of all logistics, lodging, food and fishing and all you'll have to do is get yourself there. Fly into San Juan then catch the Cape Air puddle jumper to Mayaguez and we'll take it from there.

It really is a unique place!

Local Facilities:

Nearest hospital: 27 minutes away

In terms of gear/tackle:

Permit - 8-10WT
Tarpon - 9-12 WT (definitely bring something bigger than 9WT to tackle the 100+ pound fish, the most comfortable would be a 12wt.)

Leader: We like to fish tippit of 60-80LB for the largest fish. For Permit 15-20lb.

For line type we recommend floating and intermediary. If you have both, great, if not we will have a few rods spun up with both that we will provide. In terms of flys - start gathering some natural and black/purple baitfish and toads (1/0-4/0). For the permit we recommend a mix of flats crabs (olive), strong arms (olive) and urchins. We will also have a comprehensive selection of flies at the lodge if anyone finds their patterns insufficient. Our guides will also each have a box on the boat! Please do not go overboard on tying permit flies as they can be very selective. Guides will have 1 or two patterns that they know are working well at the moment.

Clothing/Shoes:

Please bring a good waterproof jacket, long sleeve fishing shirts, protective pants (or shorts) and A SOLID PAIR OF WADING BOOTS. Many of our permit flats are very rocks/reefy, but provide great opportunities to attack permits on foot. We will encourage guests to wade on a number of our permit flats and protective wading boots are a must to complete this safely.

We are Puerto Rico's new and only fly fishing lodge operation. We are currently taking guests and are beyond pumped to show people what the west coast of PR has to offer. In constantly searching for new and different (and FUN) fisheries to expand our small but growing lodge operation, my business partner Matt and I settled on Puerto Rico for lodge #2. The place is absolutely magical, it's a quick easy flight, has loads of natural beauty and of course the fishing is insane!
