Port O'Connor, Texas
Owen Gayler Fly Fishing • 6-9 years of experience
For a half-day on the water, we leave early and get home with enough time for a few beverages back at the dock. Half-day trips last 4 hours.
For a full day on the water, we leave early and get home late. If you want to catch maximum fish, this is the option for you. Full-day trips run 8-10 hours.
We will be shallow water fly fishing and sight casting along the Texas coast for redfish, but won't pass up many opportunities to hook drum, trout, flounder or sheepshead.
There is nothing like standing on the bow of a skiff with your heart pumping, ready to sight-cast at the fish of a lifetime. The South Texas coast provides world-class fly fishing opportunities for redfish in remote areas that you will never forget.
Exact meeting location will be discussed after booking.
Port O'Connor, Texas • 6-9 years of experience
Captain Owen Gayler was born & raised in Nacogdoches, Texas. His love for the water & fishing started at a young age. By the time he was eighteen, he was studying the coast and analyzing the estuary to learn the “why” of it all. After being a mate on an offshore boat, Owen knew that he loved fishing, but more importantly that he loved to watch people catch fish and have a great time.
Capt. Owen spent years working as a cowboy on ranches from New Mexico to Louisiana, but later settled back in his hometown of Nacogdoches where he setup a cow/calf operation, along with a preconditioning yard for yearlings. Being from a family of ranchers, hard work is how he was raised.
A few years later, Capt. Owen began fly fishing while hunting for redfish in any back-lake area he could find—from South Padre Island to Louisiana. He has a passion for the backcountry, and a drive to find both new water and happy fish. Because it’s a target-rich environment for sight-casting, the Texas Coastal Bend has become Capt. Owen’s favorite area for hunting redfish, especially given the amount of clear, shallow water in endless back lakes.
Capt. Owen is laid back and likes to keep a positive attitude on his skiff. His goal is to show you a great time & fill your day with humor and fish, along with a true experience of the back lakes he so dearly loves. All you have to do is sit back, relax and take it all in. After all, the fish are just a byproduct of the great experience.
