Sam was born and raised just outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania From a young age Sam has had a passion for the outdoors. He started working in the fly fishing industry shortly after graduating High School and was a manager for a fly shop at their Pittsburgh location. While doing this job he taught many fly fishing and fly tying classes and quickly realized his passion would take him to be a full time fly fishing guide. Since making this transition he has guided in multiple locations including the famous Bristol Bay region of Alaska. He currently resides on the banks of the famed South Holston River where he guides full time. Sam also guides seasonally in the Lake Erie Tributaries which he considers his “home away from home” he grew up fishing these waters and has an intimate knowledge of them. If you are fishing with Sam you can guarantee that you will be with not only someone who consistently put you on fish, but also someone who prides themselves on making sure people leave as a better angler. Many of Sam’s clients will tell you first hand you won’t find a more passionate or hard working guide. When not on the water Sam is also a passionate weight lifter, bbq enthusiast and avid bourbon collector. He also loves to travel and spend time with his lovely wife Geneva and their 3 children.

I’ve fished with Sam many times over the past few years and I have to say I have never been disappointed. I’ve fished with a lot of guides over the years but Sam is at the top of my list. Every time I fish with him I come away a better fisherman. Sam is a great teacher and a great coach on the water. I’ve Steelhead fished with him in Ohio and Pennsylvania with great success. He puts you on the fish with the flies and the techniques that work. On a couple occasions I took my youngest son , who had never caught a Steelhead before our first trip with Sam, and before the day was done he was catching fish like an old pro. I recommend Sam to anyone who wants to have a great day on the water.

Sam is an outstanding guide. His knowledge of the river and strategies to fish different conditions is second to none. I have fished with Sam in TN and PA - and can't say enough about him as a guide and person. If you're looking for a top notch guide on the South Holston/Watauga or headed to PA for steelhead, he's your man.

Sam was an excellent guide for our trip on the South Holston in 2023. He was very knowledgeable of the river and was experienced with all aspects of the tail water.
