Separated from mainland South Carolina by a network of coastal waterways, Hilton Head Island is surrounded by a world-class fishery. The Intracoastal Waterway and Calibogue Sound run to the west of Hilton Head, which is bordered to the north and east by the Broad River and the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing with the right guide will help you maximize your success on the water. While light tackle and fly fishing are very popular pursuits inshore, many experienced offshore anglers venture to Hilton Head Island for sportfishing or deep sea fishing as well.. Book a trip with an AnyCreek guide to lean on their local knowledge and experience Hilton Head fishing to the fullest.
Deep sea fishing charters at Hilton Head Island are equipped to fish the offshore waters effectively and safely year-round. Nearshore and offshore waters are home to a variety of fish such as cobia, bull reds, tarpon, kingfish, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, marlin, sailfish, and more. Most offshore fishing is done within 25 miles of the coast although longer runs are sometimes necessary to reach the best fishing grounds. Your expert offshore fishing captain will advise you on what fish to target and how to improve your success on the water based on the seasons, bait movement, water temperature charts, and bottom structure.
In the fall and spring, you can find species like snapper, grouper, black sea bass, and more swimming just off the coast of Hilton Head Island. In the summer, you can target amberjack, cobia, spanish mackerel, triggerfish, and king mackerel with greater success. Most offshore trips are an all-day affair, as mahi mahi, blackfin tuna, sailfish, and more call the Gulf Stream waters home, 60 miles offshore.
Shark fishing is available year-round off the coast and inshore of Hilton Head Island. However, the more serious shark fishing is done in the summer months when sharks are found in numbers off the beaches. In some cases, you may find them in the waterways around the island and can sometimes use light tackle to target them.
Blacktip, bonnet head, finetooth, nurse, and hammerhead sharks are just a few species found in Hilton Head Island’s waters. Whether you are a novice or an experienced angler, shark fishing can be an exhilarating experience. Reel Job Charter Fishing offers an evening shark fishing guided trip that is worth checking out.
Hilton Head Island and the surrounding lowcountry marsh contain some of the best inshore fishing on the East Coast. The network of creeks, tidal waterways, and back bays that surround the island are ideal for shallow water exploration from the bow of one of our guide’s technical poling skiffs. Redfish, speckled sea trout, black drum, flounder, and sharks can be found inshore in the region. Seasonally, jack crevalle, tarpon, and cobia make their appearance for some challenging light tackle fishing as well. Ask your guide about what to target; their experienced knowledge will be your best asset on the water!
Hilton Head Island, apart from being an excellent fishing location, is famous for its beautiful beaches and hidden gems to explore. Rent a kayak and paddle through the waterways with your family, or go for a bike ride on the miles of paved paths that enmesh the communities of Hilton Head Island. Take a towel and head to Bradley Beach for a nice afternoon by the water. From May to October, you may even encounter sea turtles visiting and nesting on the coastline. If you’re looking for nightlife, many restaurants and bars are beachfront. Try Tiki Hut for a casual beach bar experience, or for something more classic head to Big Bamboo Cafe. When you are off the water, Hilton Head Island has something to do for every traveler.
