TLDR: Great guide, great captain, impeccable service, fantastic teacher. I got permission from my wife to book a trip on our cruise where we would be making a port stop in Roatan. I booked the trip and explained how I was not a great fly fisherman and was a little apprehensive and thought maybe we should stick to spin tackle. Even sent him a video from my YouTube channel demonstrating my skill level with the long stick. Perry and his wife run a great program, they had a driver waiting as soon as I got off the dock and Captain Perry was waiting in the boat. We waded the first two flats and had PLENTY of shots at bonefish and a trigger fish. Even an amateur like me put a couple of good presentations in front of some fish that just weren’t in the mood. With a higher tide and short on time, we stopped and picked up lunch and tried to target fish from the boat. Lunch by Mrs. Chena was absolutely fantastic as we road to the next spot. Now here is the best part of the trip, Perry was teaching me more than I’ve learned in three years of trying to learn by self teaching. We ended up fishing some structure and catching a rainbow jack and a few small yellowtail. This was crucial because it helped me really learn to strip set. We went to another area where bonefish like to gather during high tides and lo and behold there were a few. After some stalking, I had my first bonefish on the fly. Crazy intense battle and next thing you know, I’m holding my first bonefish. I would recommend Roatan on the Fly to anyone considering a trip, even if you just have a few short hours on a cruise ship stop. I would give Captain Perry 10/5 stars if I could, he stands out among many guides I’ve fished with.

Unforgettable Fly Fishing in Roatan! Booking a half-day trip with Roatan On The Fly was the best decision of our entire cruise. Perry is an outstanding guide—patient, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable. As a complete beginner to fly fishing, I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. With his guidance, I was able to catch bonefish and jack, making it an experience I’ll never forget! To make the day even better, his wife sent us out with a cooler full of cold drinks, a delicious sandwich, and fresh fruit—a level of hospitality that truly set them apart. The boat was perfectly set up for fly fishing, the scenery was breathtaking, and the entire experience felt personal and tailored. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just starting out, I can’t recommend Roatan On The Fly highly enough. This is a must-do in Roatan!

The guides were very knowledgeable of the area and where and how to pursue the fish. They did a very good job of putting us on the fish, in the best locations.

Perry is a great guide and we were in Bonefish immediately and even had a couple shots at Permit on a short 1/2 day trip. If you are wanting to fish Bonefish in Roatan he is your guy.

Perry showed us a great time on the water. He worked really hard to put us on some fish in some really bad weather conditions.

Perry is the best guide. Had a great time fishing. Saw Permit and Bones. Unfortunately my casting and the wind didn’t work out for 6 hour fishing adventure. We had a fantastic day with Perry. He knows his stuff, he is friendly, and he put us on fish. The tide was high and the moon was full so we didn't see many bonefish, but we saw at least a dozen permit and got some good shots at them. His guidance was great and I caught my first permit! The food his wife made for our trip was plentiful and excellent as well. I can't wait to fish with him again the next time I am in Roatan!!

Perry was the ultimate fly fishing guide. Very knowledgeable on the location as well as all species of fish. His wife’s breakfast as well as the tuna were amazing. Looking forward to making another trip.

Perry was absolutely great! His overall attitude and patience with my 9 year old and me made for a great experience. He did everything he could to put us on the fish without the unnecessary pressure that some guides can put on a young fisherman, taking the fun out of it. Capt. Perry Cooper is an amazing guide! He was personal, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuine. We booked a day trip for flats fishing. His driver picked us up from where we were staying, and we watched the sun rise on our way to meet him. We got to see the marine conservatory at his home (100 yr old house) and picked up cooler of wife's cooking (breakfast sandwiches, bacon wrapped stuffed chicken, potatoes). She's a chef on a tour boat, and it was all delicious! They also provided fruit and drinks. We saw a variety of marine life (and caught some!): Permit, Tarpon, Grouper, Snapper, Drum, Barracuda, Shark, Rays, Lobster, Turtles, Bonefish, etc. It also counted as a tour of the East/Southeastern side of Roatan by boat with gorgeous views and going through natural Mangroves tunnels. Highly recommend!
