The Texas Hill Country offers some of the most unique fly fishing in the South, and Andrew loves helping anglers experience it for the first time—or in a whole new way.
After a decade-long career as a sommelier, Andrew shifted his focus to teaching and sharing the Hill Country with those eager to explore it. Today, he guides anglers of all levels—whether they’re picking up a fly rod for the first time or refining techniques for their next big adventure.
Based in the Texas Hill Country, anglers can expect to target Guadalupe and Largemouth bass, Rio Grande cichlids, gar, carp, sunfish, and winter trout. Each trip is built around the angler’s goals—offering hands-on instruction, relaxed “101” sessions for beginners, or focused skill-building days for those looking to advance their game.

VerifiedWe had a great lesson with Andrew M. He was able to work with us both at our different experience levels and help us with some new fly casting skill. He was super easygoing, fun and friendly. We were nervous going into the lesson, because it had been 8 years since I cast a fly rod, and it was my partner’s first time, but Andrew put us right at ease as we jumped into the fundamentals. 10/10 experience!

Andrew did an amazing job with our fly fishing lesson and guided trip on the Guadalupe River. He was personable, professional, and all around fun to spend the day with. At no point did we feel like fly fishing was not for us. The experience struck the perfect balance between education and hands on instruction. Exactly what we were looking for as a group of fly fishing rookies. We caught multiple fish during our time on the river and created some wonderful family memories we will never forget. I would highly recommend Andrew and Angler’s Choice Fly Fishing to anyone looking to try fly fishing for the first time, or to a veteran angler who is simply looking for a great guide. We got a rec for Andrew from a very experienced fisherman in my Austin neighborhood. We could not have been more pleased with our experience from start to finish. Andrew showed great expertise on our Guadalupe River float last weekend with a fantastic day of fishing.
