Any saltwater fly fisherman/angler has redfish on their “species to catch” list. They are such incredible fish. Here in Southeastern North Carolina, we get to see redfish in many different looks. Whether that be tailing redfish in a flood tide or crawling redfish in inches of water completely exposing themselves and even seeing their eyeballs out of the water looking for their next meal. That is more of a summertime behavior (April to November). Then wintertime becomes a whole different look at redfish. They will begin to school up when the water begins to cool off. Many years we will find groups of 50 fish to 100+ fish in a foot of water. Also, when it comes to wintertime water clarity here in Southeastern North Carolina it turns to gin clear. Which will make any sight caster droll. My goal here is to make you successful. Giving you the best possible shots to land a fish we can high-five about afterward. I'm not just here to take you fishing but to educate you on my backyard. To help and give tips on how to double haul with tighter loops or to help you optimize your cast and accuracy on light tackle rods. Watching redfish or speckled trout coming up to hit a topwater plug on the surface will bring your excitement level through the roof. Then have the opportunity to pole flats sight casting redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. Available from August through October. On this trip, we'll use light tackle or fly to target the large bull reds that begin to congregate in massive, roving schools. There are many opportunities when fishing nearshore! We can troll the beaches for Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish, or sight casting these same fish along with False Albacore and Atlantic Bonito. We can run a bit further off and troll for King Mackerel, Barracudas, Amberjack, and even nearshore Mahi-Mahi! We will also have the options to drop baits down around local reefs for Sharks, Cobia, Black Sea Bass, and other bottom fish!
